1 woman in every 8 in the UK will develop breast cancer. We do not want this to be the case, and as the country with the 9th highest incidence rate in the world, there is much that we can and must do to change it. We are spearheading this change.

There is wide acceptance and belief that lifestyle choices can lead to many diseases- lack of exercise is linked with heart disease, smoking is linked with lung cancer, a bad diet is linked with diabetes- there is very little awareness that lifestyle choices can also increase or decrease a woman’s chance of developing breast cancer.

In fact, eating sensibly and exercising regularly can stop 42% of breast cancer cases. When other lifestyle factors- such as stress management and vitamin D levels- are also considered, the number of breast cancer diagnoses we can avoid becomes even higher.

We want charities, businesses, the Government and individuals to join us to prevent breast cancer and stop it affecting so many women in the UK.

But I already have breast cancer…

No woman who does develop breast cancer should blame herself, or be angry with herself for things she has done in the past. That is not how people with other lifestyle linked diseases are expected to feel and breast cancer is no different. Instead, the link to lifestyle can and should offer the opportunity for hope. There are changes every woman can make to advance and aid recovery and prevention of breast cancer. We are here to advise on these changes.
